Taylor

James E. Taylor Sr., 78, of Lewisburg, died Friday at his home. He was born in Mitchell, SD, the son of the late Harvey M. and Dorothy V. (Brown) Taylor.

On July 17, 2005, he married Ruth Pelton Deppen, who predeceased him.

James proudly served in the United States Navy.

He is survived by a daughter, Sheri L. Taylor; grandchildren: Shayanne N. Ordway (Robert), Oriana K. Hewa, James E. Taylor III, and Brody A. Taylor; great-grandson, Leon; a brother, Gene H. Taylor (Georgia J.); a sister, Sharon R. Howell; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his son James E. Taylor Jr.

He was a correctional officer at Huntington State Prison until his retirement in 2005. In his spare time, he also worked at Rustic Country Furniture when he wasn’t pursuing his three other hobbies: traveling, bowling, and model trains.

In addition to the United Lutheran Church, Sunbury, James was a member of the Sunbury American Legion, the Sunbury Area Bowling Association, and the Loose Ties Model Railroad Club of Lewisburg. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

The funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in James’ name to either the Loose Ties Model Railroad Club (looseties.com/about/) or the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).

Arrangements are by Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.
