JUG

breed

Christopher Sanchez, Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs$9,000 – Sanchez is the most expensive pitcher on this list, but at just $9,000, he’s still undervalued. The RHP is close to winning NL Pitcher of the Month, and it’s not hard to see why. In his last eight starts, Sanchez has a 1.58 ERA and a 1.95 FIP. In that 51.1-inning sample, opponents have managed just a .231 wOBA against the 27-year-old. The one area where Sanchez really isn’t elite is strikeouts. And that’s where Thursday’s matchup comes down to. The Cubs have a 29.3% strikeout rate over the last two weeks — the worst mark of any National League lineup.

Value

Frankie Montas, Cincinnati Reds at New York Yankees$6,500 – There are good reasons for this Framber Valdez ($7,500) as a top asset, but let’s save even more salary on Montas. The veteran will return to Yankee Stadium on Thursday, and he’ll be looking to silence a crowd that probably won’t be happy to see him. Fortunately, Montas has been on top form lately. The RHP is coming off his best month of the season in June, and has a 3.24 FIP with a 24.0% strikeout rate. That’s not New York at its best. Montas can take advantage and continue his recent run of success.

INFIELD

breed

Rafael Devers, Boston Red Sox at Miami Marlins$5,900 – Devers has been in top form since early June and I like him in virtually any matchup with a right-handed opponent. Why? Well, for the entire season, the All-Star has posted a stunning 172 wRC+ within the split. We don’t have a large data sample for Kyle Tyler ($6,000) at the MLB level in 2024, but we do know that he has allowed a wOBA of .417 in the 21 LHBs he has faced. Devers could have a great performance.

breed

Carlos Correa, Minnesota Twins Comparisons Detroit Tigers5,200 USD – Speaking of good hitters, Correa has a batting average of .388/.411/.582 with a WRC+ of 187 in June. The man is currently unconscious at the plate. On Thursday, the shortstop will face his former teammate. Kenta Maeda (6,300 USD). 2024 has been an uphill battle for the RHP – especially when asked to pitch outside the cozy confines of Comerica Park. Maeda has an ERA of 8.53 in his seven road games this season. Wow.

Value

Ernie Clement, Toronto Blue Jays Comparisons Houston Astros$2,800 – I don’t want to get particularly keen on Valdez, although the left-hander hasn’t looked great for the Astros this season. In fact, Valdez has a 4.99 ERA in his last eight starts. A full stack seems foolish, but there might be room for Clement in your lineups. In 64 batting appearances against lefties in 2024, Clement has a .322 batting average with a wRC+ of 149. The man even hit a longball from Josh Hader less than 72 hours ago. For less than $3,000, he’s clearly serviceable.

OUTFIELD

breed

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros at Toronto Blue Jays, $5,500 – While I am not the biggest proponent of BvP, sometimes even I am deaf to its appeal. Alvarez has Chris Bassitt ($8,000). Bassitt has basically said this before. In 18 career at-bats, the beefy slugger has hit five home runs and a 1.783 OPS against the veteran RHP. Additionally, Alvarez is on a roll right now, hitting a home run in each of the first three games of this series. I think he’ll hit a fourth on Thursday.

breed

Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers, $4,400 – Much like his aforementioned teammate, Buxton came alive in June. In 91 batting appearances that month, Buxton hit .286/.330/.548 with a wRC+ of 145. He also hit four home runs in his last eight games. Maeda is giving up an incredible 2.49 opposing home runs per nine when pitching away this season. Buxton has more raw power than anyone else in the Twins’ lineup. It all adds up.

Value

Masataka Yoshida, Boston Red Sox at Miami Marlins, $3,500 – The Red Sox have so many left-handed hitters to use against Tyler on Thursday, and Yoshida should hit right in the middle of Boston’s batting order. The 30-year-old’s value is certainly down from where he was at the start of 2023, but Yoshida has produced well in his last 10 games, posting a .316 batting average with one home run. In his last three games, Yoshida has seven hits. There’s still potential here.
