Michigan father dead after car crash, wife and sons injured

A Michigan father died and his three sons and wife were injured after a car accident on Sunday afternoon, June 30.

Dan Savage was driving with four of his family members when their sedan was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of 136th Avenue and 58th Street in Fillmore Township, WWMT, WOOD-TV and The Dutch Sentinel.

According to media reports, a preliminary investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Savage, who was driving westbound, failed to stop.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife and sons were taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, according to media reports. PEOPLE has reached out to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office for comment.

MLive.com reports that Savage’s three sons are Mason (14), Parker (11) and Levi (9).

“They were just on vacation at Disney a few weeks ago and it was a family trip when this happened. For them, it was all about family,” Savage’s aunt, Tina Josten, told the media group.

Joe Josten, Savage’s cousin, started a GoFundMe campaign for the family, announcing that Mason and Parker both “suffered devastating head injuries.” Mason’s prognosis was described as “poor” and Parker’s condition as “unclear.”

The injuries of Savage’s wife Chelsea and Levi were “less serious,” but still required medical treatment, according to Joe.

“This is an incredibly shocking and heartbreaking tragedy for everyone involved,” Joe wrote. “We are asking for donations to support the family during these uncertain times and to help with funeral costs, medical expenses and the ongoing care the children will need.”

Joe provided a campaign update on Tuesday, July 2, sharing that “Chelsea and Levi have both been able to speak with their families but are very shaken.”

“Parker has suffered a traumatic brain injury and his prognosis is currently unclear. Unfortunately, Mason’s prognosis remains poor,” the update continued.

At the time of writing, the campaign has received nearly 350 donations and raised nearly $19,000.
