1185 Films working on Paul Duane’s next feature film

EXCLUSIVE: The director of the Irish folk horror All you need is death has his next feature film project lined up for 1185 Films, as the London indie studio unveils a slate of up-and-coming directors.

Paul Duane makes The empty cell for 1185, another horror film set in a prison in near-future Ireland. An unexpected inmate – a transgender woman – is sent to the prison, and when she dies in solitary confinement, others also succumb to a curse.

Duane’s previous feature All you need is death set in the world of Irish folk ballads. The film was acquired by XYZ Films and screened at the New Orleans Overlook Film Festival alongside films such as Universal’s Abigailand received positive reviews from critics.

1185, founded by Nick Franco, has compiled an extensive film and television slate, including an Irish comedy titled Ziggy out of Father Ted Cinematographer Eugene O’Connor.

In the meantime, Code of silence Director Ben Mole directs The Worm Moon, described as “an atmospheric, disturbing story set in the rock world of the 70s”, while GhostlyDaniel Pacquette of the University of California is working on a series of projects that, according to 1185, will “bring a fresh black voice and exciting new perspectives to independent British cinema.”

Finally, Sky Arts’ Marina Abramović takes over television Co-director Lucy Gaster is behind Moll (working title)a documentary about the life of the painter Molly Parkin, and Ben Hooton is shooting a coming-of-age drama Eggshell blue.

To our knowledge, several co-production partners are involved in the projects.

1185 has also hired a development manager as a consultant, Stephen James Thompson, who will oversee the feature film and television slate. He will continue to run Page2Screen Films, the development company he founded in 2016.

Thompson is the latest addition to 1185, following Stephen Arnell and Chris Cowey joining last year.

Our new relationship with XYZ Films and Stephen James Thompson, who oversees our slate, means we have incredible value to offer.”
