Diablos’ 18-year-old baseball team wins World Series title

Diablos defeated their opponents at the Baseball Showcase World Series in Phoenix this weekend with 61 to 4

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) – “We crushed the ball all weekend long,” said Yuma Diablos head coach Faron Owl. “We played solid hitting and defense.”

The Diablos 18u baseball team finished the weekend tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring their opponents 61 to 4. In the championship game, the Diablos defeated the California Baseball Academy 13-0.

Leading the Diablos on the hill was Sebastian Mendoza, a product of Kofa.

Players with multiple goals over the weekend include Hector Zubetia, Nathan Roldan, Jose Castro, Fabian Burgos, Mason Doherty, Gabe Diaz Jr and Rigo Hernandez.

The Diablos 16u also had an exciting weekend. The 16u team reached the semifinals and won two games in walk-off style, but then narrowly missed the final.
