Swifties weren’t “ready for it” when Travis Kelce made a surprise appearance during the Eras Tour last month.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was dressed in a three-piece tuxedo and top hat for his stage debut with girlfriend Taylor Swift during their June 23 show at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The surprise quickly went viral and even caused Swift to “gush,” according to her Instagram post praising the Super Bowl winner.

It turns out the whole thing was Kelce’s idea!

During the finale of the second season of his podcast “New Heights,” he revealed to his brother Jason that he had originally planned to be on stage himself.

“I mentioned it to Tay first,” he said. “I thought, ‘How fun would it be if I just rode off on one of the bikes in the ’89’ era?'”

He said Swift laughed at first and then asked if he would be “willing to do something like that?”

Kelce said he would “love to do that,” and then they got to work.

“I’ve seen the show enough times that I might as well just stand in line here,” he explained. “And she actually found the perfect part of the show for me.”

Fast forward to when Kelce appears on stage during the singer’s “Tortured Poets Department” era and “brings her back to life.” During a costume change just before her performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” he encourages her to keep performing.

He explained that he didn’t do the bike part and joked that it was due to safety concerns.

“There was no bike in case I bumped into someone or hit one of the dancers or something like that. This was the safest option.”

“It was the perfect time for me to go there, just do theater, have fun, not only with her but with the audience, and try to get everyone excited for the rest of the show. It was great.”

This opportunity allowed him to live out a dream: to perform the hilarious tap dance that Jim Carrey does in Dumb and Dumber.

“That’s one of my favorite moves of all time,” he laughed.

He said it was “an honor” to be on stage with his lover and that he “had a lot of fun.”

Although he is not afraid to perform in front of large audiences, Kelce admitted that he had the help of “three professionals” on stage who helped him look just as professional.

“When Taylor is on stage, you can’t go wrong,” he enthused.

Kelce also brought some of his football skills to the stage.

“The only thing I told myself is, ‘Don’t drop the baby. Don’t drop Taylor when you walk to that damn couch,'” he laughed.

When Jason asked his little brother how the celebration at his performance compared to the one at a touchdown at Arrowhead Stadium, Travis said the celebration at Chiefs Kingdom was “a little longer.”

Then he remembered the moment when Swifties realized he was next to Swift.

“When everyone found out it was me, because it took a second for everyone to realize it – that moment was pretty jarring. I was like, ‘Oh, shit.’ And you don’t realize how big this damn stage is. It’s easily the size of a football stadium in length… it’s way bigger than I could have ever imagined,” he added. “But no, it was great. And I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters.”

He laughed as he told his brother his two goals for the evening: “Don’t screw it up. Don’t drop Taylor.”

Will Kelce surprise the Swifties at further stops on the Eras Tour?

“Who knows! Maybe it won’t be the last time,” he teased. “You’ll have to keep coming back to the Eras tour to see if I jump off the stage!”
