LCBO recommends stocking up on drinks ahead of possible strike on Friday

Negotiations are still ongoing between the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and the union representing thousands of workers ahead of Friday’s strike deadline.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) represents over 9,000 workers who voted overwhelmingly to strike last month. In its latest update, the union says its members are in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. Friday if no agreement is reached.

“LCBO remains focused on reaching a deal that is fair to bargaining unit employees and helps the LCBO continue to serve Ontario effectively and efficiently in a new market. We are also committed to being prepared for potential strike action and remain committed to providing the best possible service during this time,” LCBO said in a statement.

In the event of a strike, all 30 LCBO retail stores will be closed for 14 days. After this period, all stores will reopen for in-store shopping and will be open three days per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

In preparation for a possible strike, the spirits company is advising its customers to shop early and stock up on supplies before Thursday.

“Our shelves are well stocked and we do everything we can to keep inventory levels constant.

Customers may want to stock up on spirits and vintage products,” the website says.

Customers are reminded to pick up their online orders no later than Thursday. LCBO.com and its mobile app will also accept orders for free home delivery anywhere in Ontario during the duration of the strike.

According to the LCBO, grocery stores, wine stores, bars, restaurants and The Beer Store are not affected and are continuing to receive orders.
