Times, dates and where to watch – NBC Chicago

Times, dates and where to watch – NBC Chicago

Even though some of Chicago’s most famous fireworks displays don’t take place on the Fourth of July, that doesn’t mean you can’t see explosions in the sky on Independence Day.

And if you’re willing to venture out into the suburbs, even more options are available.

But for those who plan to stay in Chicago this holiday, here’s a rundown of where you can and, more importantly, where you can’t see fireworks:

Where to see fireworks in Chicago

Although Navy Pier does not have fireworks on the holiday itself, there will be a show on July 3 starting at 9 p.m. This is part of Navy Pier’s summer fireworks series, which lights up the skies above the lake with fireworks every Wednesday at 9 p.m. and every Saturday at 10 p.m.

According to officials, the July 3 show will be presented by Choose Chicago and NASCAR.

If you miss the Wednesday performance at Navy Pier, there is another show on Saturday.

There will also be a fireworks display at Soldier Field on July 3 following the Chicago Fire FC-Philadelphia Union game.

Navy Pier

While there will be huge displays at Navy Pier around the holiday, there will be none at this popular venue on the actual Fourth of July.

Officials confirmed to NBC Chicago that there will be no fireworks on Independence Day, and the city explained why fireworks are traditionally not held on the holiday.

“In the past, the city has not hosted fireworks on the Fourth of July,” a city spokesperson told NBC Chicago. “They have been held on July 3, as many suburbs have fireworks on the Fourth of July.”

While there will be no fireworks during the Fourth of July celebration at Navy Pier, the venue will remain open and several ongoing exhibitions will continue, officials said.

Winnemac Park

Winnemac Park, long known for its popular fireworks festivals, has announced that it will not take place as usual.

Instead, the Winnemac Park Advisory announced that a “Fourth For All” gathering will be held there, featuring food trucks, disc golf and many other activities.

“This event complies with Illinois and Chicago Park District laws prohibiting fireworks,” the statement said.
