On Tuesday, July 9th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, Keeper James will be signing and personalizing copies of his book. Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic rescues and fantastic wrecks in the graveyard of the AtlanticGlobe Pequot Press. The holiday book signing has become a tradition there.

We celebrate America’s first national patriots and heroes. A century later, “America’s forgotten heroes” followed: the United States Life-Saving Service. This book is primarily about the dramatic shipwreck rescues of this group. From 1871 to 1915, during their 44-year history, using nothing more than small, open wooden boats and cork life preservers, they helped save over 178,000 lives threatened by shipwrecks nationwide, often in violent and dangerous storms… ABOVE 177,000 … one survivor at a time; and yet somehow America has forgotten these peaceful heroes. In 1915, the United States Life-Saving Service merged with the US Revenue Cutter Service and was renamed the United States Coast Guard.

This book was a national bestseller and the subject of popular local book signings at the Island Convenience Store in Rodanthe, so come on over!

To round off the enjoyment, there is also a wine and beer tasting.

The sequel to Volume II was recently submitted and is due out in about a year. Now is the time to buy Volume 1. Look out for the set next year!
