Palm Bay police investigate fatal shooting of father by son overnight

A 53-year-old man is dead after being shot during a violent altercation with his son in Palm Bay early Tuesday, police reported.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday at a home in the 1300 block of Danbury Street in the southwest part of the city. The killing is the 24th.th is scheduled to take place in Brevard County on January 1. No arrests have been made in this case so far.

An unidentified man called to report that he had shot his father and that he was “out of control,” police reports indicate. The man, who was described by emergency responders as hysterical, told police he was going to disarm his weapon and wait for them to arrive. Officers found the shooting victim lying in the front yard of the home, police reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

What had led to the confrontation was initially unknown.

The autopsy is scheduled to take place this week. The investigation is ongoing.
