Princeton Review names UT the college with the best value for money

The Princeton Review has named the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, one of the best value colleges in the country for students seeking an excellent education at a relatively affordable price.

UT is one of 209 colleges on the Princeton Review’s list of “Best Value Colleges.” This list is based on data from surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges in 2023 and 2024. Survey topics ranged from academic performance, costs and financial aid to graduation rates and student debt.

“Being ranked as one of the nation’s best value colleges is a testament to our commitment to providing excellent education at an affordable cost,” said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor John Zomchick. “We are enormously proud of the way we embody our volunteer values and provide tomorrow’s leaders with access to a world-class and comprehensive college experience.”

In addition to its survey of administrators, The Princeton Review considered data from its student surveys and payscale.com’s alumni surveys on starting and median salaries and job satisfaction. In total, more than 40 data points were used to determine return on investment (ROI) ratings that formed the basis for the Best Value Colleges school selections.

UT received an ROI Rating score of 88 out of 99. In its profile, the university was recognized for its academic achievements, student body and campus life. Students quoted in the UT profile said the “school spirit is second to none and the energy the stadiums and teams bring to campus is unparalleled” and mentioned the university’s “outstanding, passionate, intelligent professors who teach in an engaging and enthusiastic manner.”

“The schools we selected as our Best Value Colleges for 2024 are a select group: They make up only about 8% of the nation’s four-year undergraduate institutions,” said Rob Franek, editor in chief of The Princeton Review. “We commend their administration, faculty, staff, and alumni for all they do to educate their students and guide them toward successful careers. These colleges are also exceptional because of the generous financial aid they provide to students in need and/or their comparatively low tuition.”
