Sonic wins the value menu war

Sonic wins the value menu war

The summer of fast food deals is getting more and more exciting. The latest fast food restaurant to enter the cheap meal battle is Sonic, and they’re offering a real bargain.

This week, Sonic launched its $1.99 menu, a new offering that includes plenty of burgers, wraps, sides, shakes, and more. The new menu has something for almost everyone, including:

  • Quarter Pound Double Cheeseburger

  • Chili Cheese Coney

  • Bacon Ranch Queso Wrap

  • Southwest Crunch Queso Wrap

  • Toddlers

  • Each of the 12 flavors of SONIC Shakes (16 oz.)

The best thing about the $1.99 meal — aside from an Oreo Cheesecake milkshake for just two bucks — is that it’s here to stay. This is a departure from other newly introduced value meals from chains like Wendy’s, Burger King and McDonald’s that are only available in the summer.

Sonic even accused its competitors in the discount menu sector of offering “tired discounts” and “boring meals.”

“More than ever, consumers value affordable food options, but they shouldn’t have to settle for the same old, boring discount offers or bland meals. Many restaurant brands promote cheap meals and discounts, and you see a lot of recycled ideas with limited options,” said Ryan Dickerson, chief marketing officer of SONIC, in a statement.

Shots fired!

It looks like Sonic is winning the cheap summer meal wars – at least until the next competitor comes along.
