Police arrested a 39-year-old woman in Harlem on Tuesday for allegedly beating a man to death with a wooden object.
Detectives arrested Sabrina Charles, 247 East 123 St., on July 2 at 6:10 p.m.
The attack occurred on the same day as Charles’ arrest, at approximately 4:25 a.m. Officers from the 26th Precinct responded to a 911 call that a robbery was taking place at 19 Hancock Place. When they arrived on scene, they found an unconscious man on the sidewalk, unresponsive and bleeding from the face.
Law enforcement sources said when officers arrived, Charles was standing next to the victim, who was found without identification. A blunt wooden object was also found next to the victim, which Charles used to strike the man, police said.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and took the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police could not confirm whether Charles and the victim knew each other, but the Daily News reported that the two had used drugs together before the attack. A motive has not been confirmed.
Charles was charged with premeditated murder and theft of property and weapons.
According to the latest crime statistics, the district recorded a decrease in violent crime of almost 21% compared to the same period last year. In 2023, no one was murdered during this period, but four rapes, 64 robberies and 83 serious assaults were recorded.
The investigations are still ongoing.
