Ann Wilson has received support and words of encouragement from her fans after announcing her cancer diagnosis in an emotional statement on Tuesday.
The 74-year-old Heart frontwoman shared on social media that she had “undergone surgery to remove something” that turned out to be cancerous and will now undergo “preventive chemotherapy.”
Fans of the singer turned to X to offer their support and “prayers.” One wrote: “A celebratory message from Ann Wilson, lead singer of the band Heart. Cancer is so insidious…”
Another wrote: “Sending Ann Wilson all the good thoughts and energy I have,” along with a screenshot of her statement.
“Your music and voice have enriched our lives with a joy for which we can never thank you enough. You owe us nothing,” one also wrote.
“Just take care of yourself, do what you think is best for your health and we will all be here waiting for you when you get back,” the fan concluded.
One social media user added: “Take care of your health above all else. Prayers are going up for your healing,” while another wrote: “Hoping for a speedy recovery. Love you all!”
“Your health is my number one priority Ann. So many people love and admire you. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. You are blessed with one of the greatest voices in rock music. It will not be silenced!!,” wrote one fan.
Another sent a positive message, writing in the comments: “I did it! YOU CAN DO IT TOO! God bless you Ann!”
“You, Nancy and the band played one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. That was at the Yale Bowl in 1980 with the Eagles and the Little River Band,” recalled one fan.
“Take all the time you need to recover and come back rocking, Ann! Heart will always be a top 10 act for me!”
Others encouraged Wilson not to rush back on stage so soon, with one adding: “God bless you, Ann. Take all the time you need.”
“Get well soon, dear Ann, and you are in my thoughts and prayers!” wrote another, with one adding: “Stay strong and get through this!!”
“Your health is more important to us than a concert tour. We are here for you when you are ready and able to tour again. Get well and do what the doctors say,” wrote another.
One fan on X shared: “Much love and blessings to you on your road to a speedy recovery. Take care.”
On Tuesday, the “What About Love” musician announced her battle for her health in an emotional Instagram post – and explained how she will undergo chemotherapy after the operation.
The post read: “Dear friends, I recently had surgery to remove something that turned out to be cancerous.”
“The surgery was successful and I feel great, but my doctors are now advising me to have preventive chemotherapy and I have decided to do that.”
Wilson said doctors advised her to “stay off the stage for the rest of the year to fully recover,” so she canceled Heart’s planned Royal Flush tour with Cheap Trick, which was scheduled to begin July 30 in Cleveland and run through December.
“To those who bought tickets: I really wish we could do these concerts. Please know that I fully intend to be back on stage in 2025. My team is sorting out these details and we will let you know the plan as soon as possible.
“Please be assured that I fully intend to be back on stage in 2025.”
“This is just a break. I have much more to sing, love, Ann Wilson. With all due respect, this is the last public statement I wish to make on this matter.”
Wilson did not disclose what type of cancer she is battling.
Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson, 70, had previously cancelled a series of concerts in Europe in June and July for health reasons.
They said Ann had to undergo a time-sensitive but routine medical procedure that required a recovery time of at least six weeks.
Ann wrote on Instagram at the time: “I’m fine! Please don’t worry. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It is definitely an inconvenience for me. Love and respect always, Ann.”
Wilson and Nancy were the two main singers of Heart, a rock band formed in the 1970s that sold 35 million records worldwide.
Heart’s US Top 40 singles include Magic Man, Crazy on You, Barracuda, What About Love and the No. 1 hits These Dreams and Alone.
They have been nominated for four Grammy Awards and have sold over 50 million records worldwide, including 22.5 million albums in the United States.
Heart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and the band reunited in 2019 after a three-year hiatus.
