Nick Marsh shares why he stayed with Michigan State football despite coaching change

Michigan State football was able to still bring in one of the top wide receivers in the country in its 2024 recruiting class. That is none other than Nick “Megatron” Marsh from River Rouge.

Marsh already showed why he is going to see the field quickly and often in the fall with his three catches during the Spartan Spring Showcase earlier this year, including a 70-plus-yard touchdown.

Marsh has quickly become a polarizing figure for Spartan Nation, as has his mom Yolanda Wilson better known as “MammaTron” as she goes by on X. He and his mom were recently guests on the Spiro Avenue Show, which is hosted by MSU alum Justin Spiro.

It was an interesting episode and both Nick and his mom were very informative about Marsh’s whole process. He spoke about several subjects with Spiro, but one of the biggest topics of discussion was why Marsh stayed true to the green and white, even after getting offers from the likes of Georgia.

Marsh had been the gem of the class back under the previous regime, as he committed to the Spartans during the summer of 2023, well before Mel Tucker was removed.

It was almost expected that when Tucker was fired, recruits who were committed were likely going to look elsewhere. That was even true for Marsh for a while, but Jonathan Smith wasn’t going to let Nick get away.

Smith made Marsh a priority to keep from day one. The pair have built such a bond, Marsh admitted to Spiro. Also adding that State was always home to him.

“The previous visits just being up at Michigan State, the feeling never went away,” Marsh said. “So, just the coach being supportive on top of that, it makes it 10 times better.”

Marsh then spoke about why Smith is a genuine guy, and why Smith was the right choice for the Spartans.

“My relationship with Coach Smith is pretty good,” Marsh said. “He’s a great guy. He cares a lot about family; just being around him, he’s got great energy, just all around a good guy. He cares a lot about the program and just the upbringing and trying to change everything.”

I can already tell that Marsh is going to be a player to remember at Michigan State. His loyalty has not gone unnoticed, and it is going to be a pleasure to see him out there each and every week.
