Book “100 Things Phish Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die” to be updated in 2024

To mark Phish’s 40th anniversary, co-authors Andy P. Smith and Jason Gershuny have released their 2018 100 things Phish fans should know and do before they die to take a contemporary and comprehensive look at the epic story of the revered Vermont jam band. An ode to their continued evolution, the book summarizes four decades of unforgettable concerts, must-see activities around the band experience, and other accolades from Phandom. The updated text will be published July 30 by Triumph Books.

The revised edition of 100 things Phish fans should know and do before they die follows the band’s evolution from their first performances in 1983 to 2024, highlighting moments from past New Year’s Eve concerts to Halloween, studio albums, festivals, fans, and other honorable mentions that mark the quartet’s uniqueness: Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, and Page McConnell and their entourage.

Building on the 2018 release, the latest edition of the book contains 10,000 new words about the band and their activities between 2018 and 2014. Also included is an unadulterated foreword by Relix Editor-in-Chief Mike Greenhaus. In addition, Sphere thoughts are revealed, as well as other current topics such as pandemic projects, New Year’s Eve 2023, and more. The mission statement and cover are a striking still from Gamehendge 2023, shot by Scott Harris.

“2024 starts at midnight with a full Gamehendge set, then Sphere, a new album, the tour and the first festival in eight years. This year is pretty powerful. If we jump 10 years into the future, how will 2024 be remembered or stand out from the 40+ years of this band? It feels kind of significant to me, but maybe that’s just the situation at the moment,” Smith mused.

Gershuny added, “Gamehendge, with its size and scope and mythology, what it meant to the fanbase, that this was the launching point of this year – and that it was done this way, with the theatrics and that they really gave it their all for the first time in 30 years… it was really an emotional, heartfelt moment. And they just kept going: Mexico was great as always, and then Sphere and the festival coming up. And then who knows what’s going to happen the rest of the year. This is going to be one of those years that people talk about. And that makes sense, because we just came through their 40th anniversary. This is the launching point for 40 and beyond. And they’re doing great.”
