Over the last two years we have seen a renewed interest in the hobby due to a number of factors, including the 25th anniversary, strong sword and shield-era sets with stunning alternate arts, influencers, box breaks, COVID-19 lockdown making people find new hobbies, and more. For a while, sets and cards that were readily available quickly became hard to find. Now that the hype is dying down, let’s see where modern sets stand. Each month I will publish an installment of this series, Pokémon Trading Card Game Value Watch. This series is not financial advice, but a way to help collectors understand the evolution of a card’s availability so that Pokémon Trading Card Game Completists like me know when to strike. How many cards in the sword and shield This year, Gengar VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare has made a big jump that is now slowly starting to fade away. Slow is the key word. This card has increased in value by $200, but has lost $50 this month. There’s no telling if it will continue to drop, but the opposite has happened with Espeon VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare, which has increased in value by a whopping $101 since we last checked in May.
