En Love releases wild, apocalyptic new promo tape: Stream

Consider this: En Love’s new promo tape ends with a song called “Starving Blade,” which is 18 seconds long. Columbus’ En Love make a freaky, reactive form of hardcore punk that defies any subgenre category. Even when they settle into a mid-tempo stomp groove, which they do very well, they sound crazy and animalistic, like this music is their only way of coping with a shitty reality. Their songs don’t follow any particular structure, so it makes sense that one of them is only 18 seconds long.

The last time we heard from En Love was in late 2022, when they Escaped EP. Now the band is gearing up for a short run of shows with Gumm and Prevention, so they’ve released this new tape that packs five songs into five and a half minutes – less time than it takes to cover Mercury Rev’s new song.
