Score updates for Florida Baseball vs. Texas A&M in the 2024 College World Series

OMAHA, Nebraska – The Florida State University baseball team has another chance to defeat Texas A&M when the two teams meet in the College World Series on Wednesday night.

The Florida Gators (36-29) must beat the Aggies twice to advance to the CWS Finals for the second consecutive year. Florida landed in the losers bracket with a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday night, a game that was delayed 4 hours and 15 minutes due to weather. The Gators nearly recovered a 3-0 deficit, but Texas A&M right fielder Jace LaViolette robbed UF second baseman Cade Kurland of a game-winning two-run home run with a catch over the right field wall in the ninth inning.

Florida moved into the losers bracket of the CWS after beating Kentucky 15-4 on Wednesday morning, a game postponed from Tuesday night due to rain. The 10 a.m. start time did not faze the Gators, who scored 15 runs on 14 hits.

With the win, Florida improved its record in the last 10 games before elimination to 9-1

After the win, Florida’s baseball coach said that right-handed freshman Liam Peterson (3-5, 6.18 ERA) will start for the Gators. Peterson threw 52 pitches against the Aggies on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in a loss.

Texas A&M will counter with left-hander Justin Lamkin (2-2, 5.43 ERA), who faced the Gators on Saturday and made six strikeouts and allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings.

UF’s bullpen is well rested after its blowout win over Kentucky, as right-handers Fisher Jameson and Brandon Neely will both be available tonight.

“We’ll be ready to play, and I know our players are excited to have another opportunity to play another game,” Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “We’ll go home, get some rest and then come back and look forward to playing again.”

Florida Baseball vs Texas A&M in 2024 College World Series: Live Score Updates

The Gators fall to Texas A&M 6-0 in the College World Series semifinals, ending their 2024 season. UF’s season ends 36-30 with a loss in Omaha for the second straight year. The Aggies scored two in the first, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the ninth inning, knocking out starter Liam Peterson in the first at bat. After its 15-run afternoon offense against Kentucky, Florida struggled all night, particularly against RISP, where the Gators went 1-12 and left nine runners on base. After being a game over .500 to start the postseason, UF went on a remarkable run, winning the Stillwater Regional, the Clemson Super Regional and two games at the CWS. The loss marks the end of Jac Caglianone’s college career. The Gators legend hit 35 home runs and 75 overall this season – both program records.

Ali Camarillo starts the ninth inning with a triple to right after a deep fly ball that hurt Ashton Wilson, who slammed head and shoulder first into the chain link wall. After a delay in which Jayden Guy came in to the RF, Kaeden Kent hit a single down the first base line and the Aggies lead 6-0. Luke McNellie comes in for Neely.

Jac Caglianone, possibly his last AB as a Gator, hits a single in the eighth inning and Cade Kurland then works a long walk. However, UF suffers two flyouts and a strikeout and ends the inning unscathed. Eight runners are now on base and Florida is 1-12 with RISP. 5-0 Aggies over Gators after eight.

The Gators start the inning with two consecutive walks, but Josh Stewart comes in for the Aggies in place of Chris Cortez and strikes out the team. Florida now has six bases left and is 1-9 at RISP. TAMU leads UF 5-0 after six.

Neely allows his first runs since the Super Regionals against Clemson when Caden Sorrell stares him down and hits a fastball to right on a full count. TAMU now leads the Gators 5-0 in the sixth inning. It’s only the second time in the postseason that Neely has allowed runs. Michael Robertson ends the inning with a crucial pike catch in center.

O’Sullivan pulls Clemente out of the game after just 14 pitches and one out as Brandon Neely comes in. The Gators’ best pitcher didn’t play against UK, but most recently on Monday he threw three hitless innings against NC State. One runner is on for the Aggies, one out.

Kevin O’Sullivan is turning to the rookie for the second time today, as Fisher Jameson’s day is over after 4 2/3 innings. Jameson allowed one run in the fifth inning, but that was it. Earlier today against Kentucky, Clemente went two innings without allowing a run. In the bottom of the fifth, the Gators trailed 1-2-3 for the second inning in a row.

The Aggies finally got Fisher Jameson in the fifth inning. Kaeden Kent started things off with a double, and after a strikeout, Gavin Grahovic hit a ground rule double that put TAMU up 3-0 against Florida. Jameson didn’t allow another one, and Brody Donay will start the bottom of the fifth inning for the Gators.

Florida leaves two more runners in scoring position as UF loads the bases and doesn’t score in the third inning. Michael Robertson worked a walk and the Gators followed with back-to-back singles by Jac Caglianone and Cade Kurland to load the bases. But then Tyler Shelnut struck out and Colby Shelton threw a popout in foul territory to shortstop to end the threat. Texas A&M 2, Florida 0, end of 3rd inning.

Florida shortstop Colby Shelton opens the second inning with a double against Texas A&M starter Justin Lamkin, but is left helpless. Lamkin strikes out the next three batters he faces, including Florida third baseman Dale Thomas in an 11-pitch at-bat. Texas A&M 2, Gators 0, End 2.

Texas A&M takes an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as freshman Liam Peterson struggled with control for the second straight night. Peterson ran the bases full and then let TAMU first baseman Ted Burton run with the bases full to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. Fisher Jameson then came in for Peterson and limited the damage, allowing a sacrifice fly by TAMU RF Caden Sorrell that put the Aggies ahead 2-0. Jameson then managed a force out to end the inning. Peterson lasted just 1/3 of an inning and of his 28 pitches, only 10 were strikes. This will put a lot of strain on Florida’s bullpen over the final 8 2/3 innings. Texas A&M 2, Florida 0 midway through the 1st.

A 9 mph east-northeast wind will be blowing at Charles Schwab Field as Florida’s game against Texas A&M begins today. The wind was blowing from the inside in the first meeting between the two schools, which Texas A&M won 3-2.

Jace LaViolette, who suffered a hamstring injury on Monday and missed TAMU’s 5-1 win over Kentucky, is in the starting lineup tonight and will play right field for the Aggies.

Florida Baseball will be the home team for its second game against Texas A&M. The Gators will wear blue tops and white pants, while Texas A&M will wear maroon tops and gray pants.
