Behind the song: “End Game” – Emma Kade

Behind the song: “End Game” – Emma Kade

Emma Kade is an award-winning emerging Canadian Métis artist and songwriter from the small town of Creston in the Kootenay region of British Columbia. Blending sweet melodies with memorable lyrics, Emma loves to write music with complex genre influences and relatable storytelling to create an emotional connection with a wide audience. A prolific songwriter since her teens, Emma released her debut album Transparent in 2015; a collection of songs she wrote in her room during high school. Like its title, the album was autobiographical and introspective, with lyrics inspired by blues, country, pop and folk music.

With the release of her single “End Game” in 2024, Emma’s new focus is on a fresh and distinctive fusion of the country and pop genres that – like all of her music – reflects her artistic passion and sonic diversity.

We are excited to partner with Emma to give our readers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at End Game!

Hey, Live in Limbo! This is Emma Kade! I’m a pop country artist from Invermere, BC. I’m so excited for you to share my new single “End Game.”

The inspiration
I have been a wedding singer for many years and have walked countless brides down the aisle. It was something of an “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” moment. When I got engaged and was in the process of planning my own wedding, the thought of singing at my own wedding terrified me, but it seemed right. I wrote the song “End Game” looking back to when my husband and I met and thinking about how love can come so unexpectedly, or just like that once you stop looking. I have always been fascinated by the fact that there are so many people in the world, but when two people are meant to be together, the universe provides.

The creation
I wanted this song to be a unique blend of pop and country music; like two genres (or people) merging into one. When producing it, Nathan Chiu (producer) and I tried to emulate that “butterfly feeling” you get when you’re with someone you adore – all the ups and downs that new love can bring. To achieve this, we added driving, urban-sounding beats, warm acoustic and electric guitars, and lots of dreamy layered vocals – especially in the chorus – that make you feel like you’re floating, like you’re falling in love.

The audience
I want this song to remind listeners of their own love stories or give them the inspiration that true love could be just around the corner – like it was for me.
