The famous African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” means that parents should rely on the community to care for, guide and positively educate their children so that they grow into well-balanced, happy and healthy adults.

This also means that new parents should lean on various supportive communities for resources, which for parents of newborns in particular can mean diapers. There are many unknowns associated with the arrival of a baby, including how many diapers and wipes one might need. That’s why Pampers is offering support to new parents by launching Diaper Stash, a diaper fund that friends and families can contribute to so parents can stock up on all the diapers and wipes they need when they need them.

To promote the new initiative, Pampers got creative and used the nostalgia of the popular sitcoms of the 1990s to That’s so babya four-part 90s sitcom-inspired content series produced by Kevin Hart’s entertainment company Hartbeat, starring Tristan Wilds and Tisha Campbell and conceived by Etienne Maurice, son of popular sitcom mom and award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. The That’s so baby The series humorously addresses the typical gift-giving conversations that all families and friends have as they prepare for the arrival of a baby.

This content series brings Maurice full circle, as thanks to his mother Ralph, he was a baby on the legendary sitcom sets of the 90s. “I grew up on the sets of black sitcoms. As I got older, I got to work on sitcom sets as a production assistant. That gave me an up-close and personal insight into television production. I was always inspired by the stories that represent my family and my culture. I believe That’s so baby honors that. Having the opportunity to create meaningful art with the people you love and admire is what makes this place so special to me,” he said.

As a mother of two boys and a seasoned actress, it was only natural for Campbell to be a part of this series. “It was nice to be a part of something like this and honor the ’90s, have conversations about gifts and make sure you support parents and especially new parents because there’s no manual and certainly not a bunch of Pampers. I liked the idea of combining the brands, my brand and Pampers,” she told ESSENCE exclusively about her experience with a ’90s kit and how Diaper Stash helps young parents.

Campbell also remembered her time as a mother fondly, although she wished she had more help. “My baby was big, over 10 pounds, so the newborn diapers didn’t fit him. Pampers diapers are something parents and loved ones can order as they get bigger, so you’re not stuck with a pile of newborn diapers in the closet that you don’t use or have to give away or donate. It’s a long-term gift that you can give them and donate, and family members can continually contribute and support a parent, which is something most parents need in that early stage. I wish I had had a diaper stash when I was raising my kids,” she said.

Wilds, a father himself, shares a similar opinion to Campbell: “I’m a dad. I think the only thing that’s probably better than being a father is being a husband. I’ve been working late at night and often running out to get diapers for my daughters. I wish I’d had that with my first child so I wouldn’t have to give away so many diapers that my daughters just couldn’t wear anymore,” he said.

Pampers knows it takes a village to raise a child, which is why last year they introduced Pampers Diaper Stash to help parents create a stash for themselves while easily rallying the support of their community. With a new feature that allows friends and family to create a diaper stash for the parents in their lives, the burden on caregivers is reduced while unlocking the true power of their inner circles.

“At baby showers, parents-to-be often receive too many diapers in the smaller sizes (which then go unused) or not nearly enough for the number of diapers they expect to use,” says Lindsay Gilbert, Brand Director of Diaper Stash. “Even after the shower, friends and family are always looking for ways to support the parents in their lives once the baby arrives. That’s why Pampers created Diaper Stash – to help parents stock up on all the diapers and wipes they need, order the right sizes as the baby grows, and to give those around them a quick and convenient way to show their continued support.”

The newly introduced feature allows parents to use funds from their Stash to purchase Pampers diapers and wipes online from major retailers or scan receipts to receive reimbursement directly to their linked bank account.

“Parenting takes a village, and some people don’t have the means or the support. Diaper Stash allows family and friends to donate on an ongoing basis. It’s OK to lean on your village; I had to lean on mine. I have two children, one with special needs, and I needed my village,” Campbell said.
