Autopsy results released as prisoners continue to die

PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria County coroner says the autopsy of a Peoria County Jail inmate found dead early Tuesday morning was inconclusive.

In a statement released early Wednesday morning, coroner Jamie Harwood said the inquest into the body of 31-year-old Wayne Hatton found no fatal injuries, despite an altercation the night before.

Biopsy and toxicology results are pending, but Harwood says these tests generally take four to six weeks to produce results.

Hatton was found unconscious in a holding cell at around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, where he was alone.

Life-saving measures were initiated, including several doses of Narcan and epinephrine, but to no avail.

The man was taken to UnityPoint, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Peoria County Sheriff said the Illinois State Police were immediately contacted and took over the investigation in accordance with sheriff’s policy.

The death is being investigated by state police and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

Watkins says there are no initial indications of foul play.
