Travis Kelce reveals inside story about Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour performance at Wembley

Travis Kelce has revealed the discussions he had with girlfriend Taylor Swift that led to his surprise appearance at her Eras tour show in London.

Kelce surprised 90,000 fans when she took the stage at Wembley Stadium as a backing dancer for Swift and sang “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

And now the Super Bowl winner has revealed in Wednesday’s episode of “New Heights” how this moment came about.

“That’s not my style at all. I don’t like being on stage,” Travis said sarcastically when his brother Jason asked him about that moment.

“I mentioned it to Tay initially, but said, ‘How fun would it be if I rode out on one of the 1989-era motorcycles,’ and she started laughing and said, ‘Would you seriously be willing to do something like that?'”

“I just thought, ‘What? I’d love to do that, are you serious?’ I’ve seen the show enough times, so I might as well get in line here.

“She actually found the perfect part of the show for me to perform. No bike, in case I collided with someone else or hit one of the dancers. That was the safest option.”

Travis joined backup dancers Kameron Saunders and Jan Ravnik on stage to “bring Taylor back to life” during the break between their performance of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.” Jason admitted that this is his new favorite song because it’s relatable to everyone.

“It’s such a fun, playful part of the show,” Travis added of the mime sketch between the two tracks of their latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“It was the perfect time for me to be up there and have fun with her and the crowd. It was great. It was a blast, I had so much fun. It was an honor to be on stage, with Taylor of course, but also with Kam and Jan.

Kam’s brother, NFL defensive tackle Khalen Saunders, played four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Travis won two Super Bowls before signing as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints last year.

“Just one of my absolute favorite teammates,” Travis said of Khalen. “I was able to rock the field with him and now rock the stage with his brother.”

“I’ve always been a fan of dancers,” he continued. “I’m a big fan of background dancers, they keep things alive. I’m a team guy. I’m in it to make sure everyone has fun.”

The tight end admitted that he first came on stage on a bicycle in 1989.

“I’ve seen the show so many times now that I’m doing the choreography in the middle of the crowd. It’s fun to take part. The fact that they were willing to help me and look like a pro was great.”

As part of his performance, Kelce had to carry Swift to the back of the stage – and he said that was the most nervous part.

“The only thing I told myself is, ‘Don’t drop the baby. Don’t drop Taylor when you drive over that couch. The golden rule,'” he said as Jason laughed before comparing the carry to holding the football at a game.

“Coach (Eric) Bieniemy always said: ‘In this ball are our dreams, goals and hopes – you can’t drop the ball.’ Greetings to EB.”

His brother Jason had been with Travis to one of the three London shows where Swift performed, but missed his brother’s surprise performance because his brother was on his way back to the United States.

“You rocked it,” Jason said. “I wish I could have been there. I just enjoyed seeing the joy everyone had on stage. It was so cool to witness.”

“What I liked most was just the joy that everyone had on stage – you, Kam, I mean, Kam is always having fun.”

“The photo of you looking at Tay and just smiling from ear to ear. It was so much fun to watch, I wish I could have been there.”

Travis admitted that the cheers he receives for a touchdown at Arrowhead Stadium last a little longer, but he was still surprised by the Eras Tour crowd at Wembley.

“It took a second for everyone to realize, and then they turned the camera on me, Kam and Jan – as the three of us walked on stage. That moment was pretty shocking,” he said.

Travis continued, “You can’t even tell how big the stage is. It’s way bigger than I ever imagined. I thought, ‘I feel tiny up here.’ It was amazing and I didn’t disappoint Taylor, and that’s all that matters.”
