‘The Walking Dead’ star Andrew Lincoln admits the brutal death of a beloved character was a bit too much

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead up to and including the premiere of season 7.

The Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln says the brutal death of popular character Glenn may have been a bit too much.

Speaking to Empire, Lincoln said that the team behind The Walking Dead may have “overdone” this particular death, as it seems a bit more gruesome than the countless other deaths that appear in the zombie series.

Glenn was a fan-favorite character, but even he couldn’t escape the brutality of the series, which was already evident in the first episode of Season 7. The new villain Negan, who appears opposite Lincoln’s Rick Grimes as a sign of this, killed Glenn with several bloody blows to the head with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire.

I still think that Glenn may have died because we made too many omelets.

“I still think Glenn’s death may have been because we put too much egg in the omelet,” Lincoln said. “Maybe it took too long.”

Filming was “one of the most intense nights of shooting I’ve ever experienced,” he added, despite the irony that Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan is “one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.”

“He had to do this extraordinary monologue on his first day on the job, and everyone was on their knees crying when they were off camera,” Lincoln said. “(Morgan) came over and said, ‘Is this normal?’ I said, ‘Yeah, everyone just keeps going.’ It was an extraordinary night.”

The main Walking Dead series has now come to an end, but the franchise is far from over. Lincoln himself stars in a spin-off, The Ones Who Live, alongside Danai Gurira as Michonne. This series follows the pair after the events of the original series, and its first episodes received an 8/10 in the IGN review.

Another spin-off follows another popular character, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), as he explores post-apocalyptic France.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is an entertaining rehabilitation of the character Daryl, taking him on a hero’s journey through France that allows him to open up, enjoy life, be a badass, and really change his Zompocalypse attitude,” IGN said in our 7/10 review.
