The director behind the John Wick Franchise, Chad StahelskiTo be continued to cement his legacy in action film as he will now produce the English-language remake of the acclaimed Indian action film in Hindi KillAccording to a report from Deadline, Stahelski and his production company 87Eleven Entertainment will Kill Remake for Lionsgate, with the John Wick The director praised the original as “one of the liveliest, wildest and most creative action films” he had ever seen.

“‘Kill’ is one of the most vibrant, wild and creative action films I’ve seen in recent times. Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that deserve to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version – we have big shoes to fill and I look forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet and Achin to make that happen.”


Kill sounds like the perfect action film project for Stahelski and revolves around an army commando who has to fight his way through a train after a gang of knife thieves start terrorizing the passengers. Written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, the lead role is played by Indian actor Lakshya. Here you can find the official synopsis for Kill below.

“When army soldier Amrit (Lakshya) finds out that his true love Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is engaged against her will, he boards a train to New Delhi to prevent the arranged marriage. But when a gang of knife thieves led by the ruthless Fani (Raghav Juyal) begins terrorizing innocent passengers on his train, Amrit takes them on a death-defying murder spree to save those around him – turning a normal journey into an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride.”



Kill scores an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes

In a joint statement, the producers of the original, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta of Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment, called the news a “major victory for Indian cinema”.

“When we made ‘Kill’ with Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, we dreamed of global love and when we heard North American cinemas chanting ‘Kill! Kill! Kill!’ it was like that vision came to life. This announcement before the release of the original film is unprecedented and a huge achievement for Indian cinema. We are truly honoured.”

After its debut in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year, Kill is scheduled to hit Indian theaters on July 5, 2024. In addition to the remake, Lionsgate has now also acquired the original for release in North America and the UK, marking the first time a Hollywood studio has acquired a Hindi-language film for release in the United States.
