Music in the Park concert series returns to Staples – Wadena Pioneer Journal

STAPLES – The “Music in the Park” series at Staples begins with the music of Chris Frost and Chris Bremmer. Pianist Geoffrey DeCamp will open the duo.

This concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, is the first in the summer series that will run for five Sundays. The Staples Host Lions Club will have popcorn, soda and water for sale, but audience members should bring their lawn chairs.

According to a press release, Frost said music lovers can look forward to a “melting pot” of 1970s music. Frost is one half of the duo that performs regularly at Frosty’s Spirits & Social Club in Staples, where the two veteran musicians first met.

Frost was playing solo there at the time. He remembered the Friday night when Bremmer came in and was ready to play a few songs at the open mic portion.

“We hit it off right away,” Frost said in the press release.

He added that the two soon realized that they shared the same love of music and had similar artistic backgrounds.

“We led separate lives parallel to each other,” Frost said.

Both have been part of several bands in the past, such as “Retro Cowboy” for Frost, and have also worked solo.

Frost, who hails from New York Mills, plays keyboards and guitar, and Bremmer of Motley plays lead and rhythm guitar and occasional dobro. And both can sing.

They have enjoyed their weekly performance at Staples at Frosty’s (owned by Frost’s sister Colleen) and are excited to perform at Northern Pacific Park for the first time. They hope to see many familiar faces and some new ones too, the press release said.

Come early and enjoy the music of 16-year-old Staples piano opening act DeCamp this evening at 6:45 p.m. DeCamp, an award-winning musician from Staples-Motley High School, plays everything from Billy Joel to ragtime and boogie-woogie.

The Music in the Park concerts take place Sundays at 7:00 p.m. in Northern Pacific (NP) Park through August 4. For more information about the Music in the Park series, visit www.staplesmotleyarts.org.

Northern Pacific Park is located at 625 Sixth St. NE. At the intersection of Highways 10 and 210, go six blocks north on Sixth Street Northeast. In the event of rain, concerts will be moved to Faith Lutheran Church in Staples.

The Music in the Park series is sponsored by the Staples Host Lions Club and 3M of Staples. The series is organized by the Staples-Motley Area Arts Council with support from the City of Staples.

From the Pioneer Journal staff report

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
