OnePlus is reportedly working on an AI-powered summarization feature for voice recordings

OnePlus is reportedly working on an artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will allow users to create text summaries from voice recordings. The feature was spotted in the latest version of Oxygen OS, the company’s custom skin for Android. It is said to support multiple audio formats. The feature is currently not visible and those who have joined the beta program cannot test it. Interestingly, one of the code strings mentioned India among the countries where the feature could roll out first.

OnePlus is said to get a summary feature for AI voice recordings

Android Authority spotted the feature under development on Oxygen OS 14.1. The feature is not currently enabled and the publication discovered it during a teardown of the company’s software. The smartphone maker is said to be working on a sound recorder that uses the AI Summariser feature that the company unveiled earlier this year and spotted on the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open.

The code strings also provide some clues about the alleged functionality. For example, the “AI Voice Recording Summary” feature supports multiple audio file formats, including MP3, AMR, AWB, AAC, and WAV, according to the “convert_error_format” string.

The recording file size should be less than 500MB and the recording length less than five hours for the feature to work, according to strings discovered by the publication. In addition, voice recordings that are too short apparently are not used to generate a summary.

In addition, the lines of code indicate that there is a limit to the number of summary generation tasks a user can launch at the same time. There is also a daily limit, the exact details of which are currently unknown. These criteria could mean that these features are limited at the server level. They may also be offered as a paid subscription.

The publication also discovered code strings describing the feature in Android 15 Developer Preview 2. These strings did not reveal any further details about the feature, but rather the places where it might be introduced first. Three languages are reportedly mentioned – Chinese, Hindi and English – suggesting that the AI Voice Recording Summary feature could be available in China, India and the US first, according to the report.
