What is the value of each of the Euro 24 quarter-final teams?

The quarter-finals of the 2024 European Championship have been decided and promise to be spectacular. The eight teams have a combined market value of $7.7 billion. England leads with the highest value, while Switzerland has the lowest. Here is a breakdown of each team in reverse order:

Quarter-finalists of the Euro 24: combined player value

Switzerland ($302.4 million)

They dominated Italy in the round of 16 and challenged Germany in the group stage. A very hard-working team with Murat Yakin as coach. The decisive factors are Sommer in goal, Akanji in defence and Xhaka in midfield. Less experienced players like Aebischer on the left and Ndoye, who reacts quickly to counterattacks, have also performed excellently. And although they have the lowest rating in this group, at least their flag is a big plus.

Türkiye (349.92 million US dollars)

Once again Turkey pull off a miracle, this time under Montella and with Arda Güler as the conductor. He missed the match against his homeland due to discomfort, which caused controversy. He was successful as a false nine. Remarkable performances from full-back Kadioglu, midfielder Koçku and striker Yilmaz. Although injuries and suspensions weakened their defence and goalkeeping, the experienced Demiral stepped up to score two goals in the round of 16.

Netherlands ($880.2 million)

Koeman’s team were exposed by Austria in their final group match but showed excellent form in their round of 16 clash against Romania. Van Dijk leads from the back, Reijnders controls the midfield and the team’s strength lies in the speed and creativity of its three strikers: Gakpo, Xavi Simons and Depay. They have an easier path in the draw but cannot overlook Turkey.

Germany ($897.48 million)

The host nation has overcome challenges, such as a last-minute draw with Switzerland thanks to a Füllkrug goal that secured his team top spot in the group. They have had strong periods in matches, particularly in the first half against Scotland and the second against Denmark. Musiala has been particularly accurate, more so than Wirtz. Rüdiger is increasingly dominating in midfield. There have been debates between Havertz and Füllkrug, but Nagelsmann prefers the former.

Spain ($1.04 billion)

Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal have been explosive. Rodri and Fabián work well together and form the core of the team. Spain play perhaps the best football, although they had to pull themselves together in the round of 16 against Georgia. Cucurella has shone at left-back, while Pedri and Morata have been less assured. Dani Olmo could even replace the former. Spain have never beaten a host nation, a record they hope to change against Germany.

Portugal ($1.13 billion)

Portugal have had a tough road ahead, narrowly beating Slovenia on penalties. They have had moments of brilliance, such as in their second game against Turkey, but have had to come from behind against the Czech Republic, lost to Georgia and struggled against Slovenia. Cristiano is keen to score in his sixth European Cup, but it is putting pressure on the team. Leão is blocking João Félix on the left and the team’s success could depend on whether Cristiano calms down.

France ($1.33 billion)

The perennial team is playing brilliant defensive football as usual but is struggling to score goals. With just three goals so far – two own goals from the opposition and a penalty – their attack is lacking. A broken nose by Mbappé in the opening match against Austria thwarted their plans. He played with a mask and did not look like himself. Deschamps decided to bench Dembélé against Belgium and instead use a midfield trio plus Griezmann.

England (1.64 billion dollars)

Despite having the highest market value, England’s performance was disappointing. Bellingham’s last-minute overhead kick saved them against Slovakia and he and Kane were heavily criticised despite carrying the team. Manager Southgate has not yet agreed on a midfield plan and is rotating Alexander-Arnold, Gallagher and Mainoo, leaving Palmer as just a super-substitute.

While these numbers are interesting, they give little indication of which nation will lift the trophy in mid-July. Highly valued individual players do not always mean a well-oiled winning machine.
