First section of the Catania Bicocca-Catenanuova line completed

In Sicily, Webuild is involved in the realization of 8 projectsSeven of them are railway sections on the Palermo-Catania-Messina line, while the eighth involves the construction of the Ragusanathe motorway that will connect Ragusa with Catania. These highly complex works, part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor of the TEN-T network, currently comprises 1,700 peopleincluding direct employees and third parties, with the involvement of 1,150 companies in the supply chain since the start of the works. This confirms that the island is going through a phase of profound and radical infrastructure transformation. For this reason, Webuild has decided to open Roboplant in Belpasso, in the province of Catania, a 4.0 robot factory to produce segments that will line the tunnels of the two lots under construction on the Catania-Messina line. A second plant will soon open in Dittaino, near Enna. The Roboplant plant is the first of its kind in Italy due to its high level of internal automation. It can produce a segment every 7 minutes, compared to the 10 minutes that would be required without full automation. To ensure a specialised workforce on the island’s construction sites, the Group is implementing the Cantiere Lavoro Italia initiative, a training and employment program aimed at recruiting 2,500 new workers, 80% of whom will work in the South.
