Congresswoman Gluesenkamp Perez says: “Biden will lose to Trump”

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A Democratic congresswoman in Washington believes President Biden will lose to former President Donald Trump in November.

Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-3) tells KATU News that she believes the president’s performance in last week’s debate will cost him the election.

“About 50 million Americans tuned in and watched this debate. I was one of them for about five very painful minutes. We all saw what we saw, you can’t take it back, and I believe the truth is that Biden is going to lose to Trump. I know that’s difficult, but I believe the damage has already been done by this debate.”

She did not call on the president to drop out of the race, but said Democrats must accept the outcome of the primaries.

“A central tenet of democracy is to accept the outcome of an election. In reality, however, the primaries have already progressed to the point where Biden is the candidate,” said Gluesenkamp Perez.

Gluesenkamp Perez captured a traditionally red seat in 2022 when she defeated Republican Joe Kent and replaced retiring Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler.

In an email to KATU Tuesday evening, Kent, who is running for the seat again this year, said Gluesenkamp Perez is trying to distance herself from the president even though she voted for his policies.

“The inflation that drives Bidenomics and open borders is a direct result of Democrat policies supported by Perez that hurt the people of our district every day,” he wrote. “Perez will try to distance herself from Biden and hide behind insults. I will hold her accountable for her voting behavior.”
