A singer-songwriter from WEST Belfast prepares to release his debut album.

Brendan McCullough from Suffolk was one of the founding members of the popular Belfast band The Long Stay. During lockdown he began his solo career by writing his own songs. His debut album Journey is out on July 19th.

“I have enjoyed making music for many years, performing both as a solo artist and as a member of Belfast band The Long Stay,” explained Brendan.

“Over the years I have collaborated with songwriter friends as a co-writer, but during the pandemic lockdown I picked up the pen and started writing and producing my own material.

“I have always been drawn to music that tells a good story with a lot of feeling and soul.

“I think those are two things you need to turn a good story into a great song, and confidence in your ability to get it across and keep it interesting and entertaining.”

Speaking about some of the songs on the album, Brendan continued: “A Moment In A Time is a melodic song that reflects the struggle of coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. It was recorded with the help of my cousins who are songwriters living in Ontario, Canada.

“A Fragile Leaf” tells the story of a homeless man abandoned by society who lives a relentless and all too mundane life like many people around the world.

“Never on your own is a very personal song that reflects some of the issues associated with the debilitating disease dementia.”
