Barry Keoghan lands next film role in Chris Hemsworth thriller

Barry Keoghan has planned his next film alongside Chris Hemsworth.

According to Deadline, the Saltburn actor is currently in negotiations to appear in director Bart Layton’s adaptation of Crime 101, a 2021 crime novel by Don Winslow.

Marvel duo Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo were confirmed to lead the project earlier this month after Pedro Pascal dropped out due to scheduling issues.

Plot details for “Crime 101” have yet to be revealed, but in Winslow’s original story, Detective Lou Lubesnick investigates a series of jewel thefts on the Pacific Coast that are believed to have ties to the Colombian cartels.

Lubesnick, however, senses another lead: he targets a possible suspect who is looking for one last big coup.

The film was written and directed by Bart Layton.

News of Keoghan’s involvement comes after he explained why he left the cast of Gladiator 2. At the time, reports said the Irishman had instead decided to focus on his latest film, Bird.

“I’m a huge fan of Gladiator and a huge fan of the cast. It’s a shame you can’t do both. But that’s what happens in this game. You can’t do both. That always happens. And shooting in two different countries makes it really difficult, too,” he told IndieWire.

“Bird,” which also stars Franz Rogowski, Nykiya Adams and Jasmine Jobson of “Top Boy,” currently sits at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, after scoring 100% the first time around.

Meanwhile, White Lotus star Fred Hechinger has replaced Keoghan in the role of Emperor Geta in Gladiator 2. Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen will also star in the film.
