Actress and businesswoman Gwyneth Paltrow and her ex, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, have two children together, 20-year-old daughter Apple Martin and 18-year-old son Moses Martin.

In a 2016 interview with Glamour, Paltrow spoke about co-parenting her children with Chris Martin, whom she was married to from 2003 to 2016. She said they were able to put their differences aside to do “what’s best for the kids.”

“We’ve put a lot of thought into how we could do it to minimize the damage,” she explained about the split. “We all spend weekends together, we spend holidays together. We’re still a family, even if we’re not in a romantic relationship. He’s like my brother.”

Apple

Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born on May 14, 2004 in London as the first child of Paltrow and Chris Martin.

Paltrow revealed the inspiration for her daughter’s name in a 2004 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“When we were pregnant, her father said, ‘If it’s a girl, she should be called Apple.’ It sounded so sweet and conjured up such a beautiful image for me, you know,” she explained at the time. “Apples are so sweet and healthy, and it’s biblical. And I just thought it sounded so beautiful.”

Apple Martin has imitated her father’s singing skills and received a standing ovation for her performance with Chris Martin, who invited his daughter onstage to sing an acoustic version of Ariana Grande’s “Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart” with him at a benefit in Malibu in 2016.

In 2023, Paltrow revealed that Apple Martin is a fan of her style, responding to a fan’s question on her Instagram story – “Does Apple ever wear anything from your fashion archive?” – with a photo of her daughter wearing one of her previous Oscar looks.

When Apple Martin turned 19 last year, Paltrow gushed about her daughter in a sweet post on Instagram.

“I love you so deeply and completely, there are no words to describe it,” the actress wrote in the caption. “Seeing you as a 19-year-old woman fills my heart with almost unbearable love, pride and meaning! I can’t stand it! Thank you for making me brunch, I’m making you dinner!! I love you so much, always and forever mom.”

Moses

Moses Martin, Paltrow and Martin’s second child, was born on April 8, 2006 in New York City.

In 2020, Moses Martin made an appearance with Paltrow via Zoom on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where he expressed his interest in music.

“I’m playing guitar the most at the moment, I’d say. For a while it was piano, and now I’m taking guitar lessons again,” he told Fallon at the time.

As she celebrated Moses Martin’s 17th birthday in 2023, Paltrow paid tribute to him on Instagram, calling her son “the boy who fills my soul every time I look at him.”

“You are the most extraordinary, kind and loving person,” she wrote in the caption. “You make us all laugh with your perfect impersonations and inspire us with your harmonies. I adore you more than you could ever imagine!”

In April 2024, Paltrow celebrated Moses Martin’s 18th birthday by posting a picture of him on Instagram and writing a long note in his honor in the caption.

“Happy 18th birthday, my son,” she wrote at the time. “I’m so proud of you. I love your sensitivity, your brilliance and your quiet humor. I admire how deeply you delve into the areas that interest you and how you’ve become an expert on ’80s synthesizers and the French Nouvelle Vague.”

She continued: “I love how much you love the people you love, but also how introspective you are. There is such a wonderful world of ideas and harmonies in your beautiful head.”

She concluded her post by saying, “I am incredibly proud of the person you are today as you cross the threshold into adulthood. I love you more than words can say @mosesmartin you absolutely kill me.”
