The makers of “Cobra Kai” explain why the Netflix series had to end with season 6

The makers of “Cobra Kai” explain why the Netflix series had to end with season 6

The history of Cobra Kai will come to an end with the upcoming sixth season. Ahead of the first part’s debut on Netflix later this month, the series’ co-creators commented on why season 6 had to be the end of the series.

The series was developed by Hayden Schlossberg, Jon Hurwitz, and Josh Heald. Schlossberg and Hurwitz spoke about the series in a new chat with Screen Rant, describing how Season 5 helped set up the story’s endgame, which essentially necessitated the series ending with Season 6. Although the series also moved from YouTube to Netflix during its run, Hurwitz pointed out that there was always a plan for the series finale, but they didn’t know at the start how many seasons it would take to get there.

Of course, the Karate Kid Crane Kick was a legal move

In the latest edition of Movie Legends Revealed, we debunk the myth that Daniel LaRusso’s tournament-winning crane kick in The Karate Kid was an illegal kick.

“Season 5 was about bringing the kids together so they could compete as a giant team in this Sekai Tekai against the next level fighters that they face,” Schlossberg said. “At the end of Season 5, there were some hanging Chads left, namely Kreese, so we’ll see what happens with that. But yeah, we knew in Season 5 that we were in the final stages with that, and it was only after we had filmed season 5 that it became somewhat clear to us: “Okay, this will be the end later.”

“We knew in Season 5 that we were in the final stages of the game.”

Hurwitz added, “It was hugely important to us from the beginning (to have a finish line). It’s weird, we went into this show partly naively, partly with wishful thinking and faith in the story we’re telling, which was, ‘Okay, where we end the series, a lot of what happens in the last episode has elements of what we talked about before we started shooting Season 1.’ So we knew what we wanted the relationship between Johnny and Daniel to be, and we knew what was going to happen in that last episode. A lot of things evolved over time, but there was always kind of that North Star, and we were determined to experience as many seasons as possible.”
