How could the Texas Rangers approach the MLB transfer deadline? This is what Chris Young says

After defeating the American League-leading Orioles, the Texas Rangers have positive momentum to build on. What could that mean for their approach to the MLB transfer deadline?

General manager Chris Young kept that card under wraps in a recent interview with 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM). When asked if the team might sell after a slow start to the season, Young said the Rangers are “not committed to it” at this point.

“Obviously things could change and the record will dictate that,” Young said. “Right now I believe in this group and I think we’re going to get going. We’ll see how the next 20 to 25 games go as we get into July here. Then we might be forced to make some important decisions.”

According to the general manager, the Rangers have their best season of baseball yet to come. Before Tuesday’s series opener against the San Diego Padres, the Rangers were in third place in the AL West, eight games behind the leading Mariners.

A reminder that Texas was aggressive during the deadline last year, adding reinforcements to its starting pitchers in Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery.

Young is convinced that the Rangers still have the ability to get going and advance to the playoffs.

“We haven’t played our best baseball for a number of reasons, whether it’s injury-related, performance-related or just timing, so we haven’t been able to balance our winning streak with pitching, hitting and bullpen all going well at the same time,” Young said. “I believe in this group. I know the character of the team, I know how hard these guys work. I know how much they want it. I know they’ve responded when their backs have been against the wall in the past.”
