New Netflix movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F In “The 4000,” Eddie Murphy once again slips into his legendary role as outsider cop Axel Foley, who returns to Beverly Hills after the life of his daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) is threatened. As in the previous Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F begins in Detroit, Axel’s hometown, and it’s not long before he’s back to his old mischievous tricks. It’s clear that not much has changed for the feisty detective 30 years later as he finds himself involved in shootouts, car chases and police pursuits.
In addition to a classic soundtrack with the title melody Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer, who is still remembered today, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Director Mark Molloy brought back some of the original cast to capture even more of the magic of the sequels, including John Ashton as Taggart, Judge Reinhold as Rosewood, Paul Reiser as Jeffrey and Bronson Pinchot as Serge, who teams up with Axel to uncover a drug conspiracy.
Of course, the reboot also features new characters to attract a new audience to the 80s cult classic. Paige plays Axel’s estranged daughter Jane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer) plays Axel’s new liaison Bobby Abbott at the Beverly Hills Police Department and Kevin Bacon joins the cast as Captain Grant. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, It is not only the cops and robbers that lure Axel back to Beverly Hills, but also the chance to reconcile with Jane and build a relationship outside of his work.

Hot Shot Cop is not a flop – even if you haven’t seen the original films
As someone who has never seen the successful blockbuster series of the 1980s Beverly Hills police officer, I had no idea what to expect from the fourth part, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Of course, I had definitely heard of the cult action comedy, but in an age of reboots and remakes, I usually find myself wondering if I need to have seen the previous film to understand the new one – and in this case, it definitely would have helped. But that didn’t stop me from experiencing the completely insane, hilarious action sequences that clearly everyone loved in the ’80s and that made me kind of nostalgic for an era I didn’t even live through.
I also didn’t know how much it is a cultural phenomenon Beverly Hills Cop was when it was first released. The blockbuster is a pioneer in the American buddy cop genre. The first film became the seventh most successful film of the year and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 1985. It later spawned two sequels, followed in 1987 by Beverly Hills Cop 2: The Wonderful World of Madness and 1994 Beverly Hills Cop III. The original film was so successful that its theme song Axel F reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and years later became an internet meme when Crazy Frog covered it in 2005 (I’m afraid to admit that it was the cover I immediately recognized when I saw the film).
Reboots and remakes are a hotly debated topic among moviegoers, with Hollywood often facing resistance when a film is just a rehash of another old film. Cult classics and multi-millionaire franchises often fall victim to the reboot treatment with Nightmare on Elm Street, Charlie’s Angels, Ghostbusters, Fantastic Four And old boy They all made it onto the long list of failed reboots.
But if Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Director Mark Molloy took on the challenge of making the fourth film in the series, determined to bring back the qualities that everyone loved about the ’80s classic, namely Eddie Murphy (of course), the original cast, the stylish residents of Beverly Hills, a hit soundtrack and the thrilling action that made ’80s buddy cop movies so special.
As I mentioned, I never saw the original trilogy, so the legacy of the beloved characters may have escaped me somewhat. However, their hilarious banter and snappy dialogue can be enjoyed by anyone, whether you’ve seen the previous films or not. The same goes for the crazy action sequences and Axel’s outrageous humor, which had me laughing out loud throughout the entire 115 minutes. However, if you’re like me and haven’t binged the original, Beverly Hills Cop movies, you probably won’t recognize some of the re-enactments, but you’ll still enjoy seeing them for the first time, even if you’re unfamiliar with the source material.
And as for the star of the show, Murphy delights audiences in every role he plays, so you’re guaranteed an entertaining rollercoaster ride. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F definitely feels like the beginning of a new film series that will usher in a new era for Axel and hopefully be better than the dead and buried Beverly Hill Cop – The Wonderful World of Madnesswhich received a miserable 11% on Rotten Tomatoes and did not make our list of the best Netflix movies.
