The Wolverine on replacing 5 starters in Michigan’s OL and weapons in the TE room I #GoBlue

There are still 60 days until the defending champion Michigan Wolverines Football team takes the field in the opening match on August 31 against State of Fresno. Until then, each day we’ll discuss current events at Michigan and the upcoming season and/or take a look at an important number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, be it a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.

Michigan can provide prospective transfer students with some hard facts that show just how much new players can impact a great team. Just look back to last season, when the Wolverines added nine new players to their program, all of whom played a crucial role in one way or another.

The Maize and Blue had transfer players at various positions on the field, with two starters on the offensive line at center Drake Nugent and left tackle LaDarius Hendersona starting tight end in AJ Barnera starting cornerback in Josh Wallacedefensive role players in EDGE Josaiah Stewart and linebackers Ernest Hausmanna first-class kicker in James Turner and backups at quarterback Jack Tuttle and Offensive Tackle Myles Hintonwhich opened five contests. All nine were in the second half of the depth chart.

In total, Michigan’s transfer players played 4,165 snaps for a 15-0 team that won the national championship. Pretty impressive.

player Offensive/Defense Snaps Special teams snapshots

Quarterback Jack Tuttle 55 0

Okay, so Michigan’s transfer players were able to play early and often and the team won big (as big as possible), but the group also developed, which was one of the main points each player brought up when talking about why they chose the Wolverines.

Barner is the best example of this. He went from being a solid tight end in Indiana to a fourth-round NFL draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks after spending just one season with the Wolverines. He wasn’t even the team’s most played tight end, as the now junior Colston Loveland He collected 649 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns compared to Barners’ 249 yards and 1 touchdown.

Henderson, meanwhile, was also selected as a draft pick, going to the Houston Texans in the seventh round. Three others – Nugent (Packers), Wallace (Rams) and Turner (Packers) – are currently on NFL rosters despite not being drafted.

Stewart, Hausmann and Hinton are considered Michigan’s starters this fall, and Tuttle is a good candidate for the starting quarterback position after missing spring practice due to injury.

The Wolverines’ transfer portal imports are doing well.
