Former CRO-MAGS frontman JOHN JOSEPH on the message of his new book “Destroying Monsters”: “It’s never hopeless”

In a new episode of Occupy The Void, the podcast about mental health, music making and survival, hosted by Christina Rowattformer CRO-MAGS Frontman John Joseph spoke about his book entitled “Destroy Monsters”now available through its own Grace PublishingThe first half of the book is about Joseph‘s own struggle with addiction, while the second half talks about techniques and skills Joseph Ways to stay clean.

When asked what he thinks readers will take away from reading the book, Joseph said (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It’s never hopeless because no matter how low we are… People talk about it, ‘Oh, I was at the bottom.’ You can actually go under, you can be under the rocks. You can be fucking lower than… I was below At the bottom. When I first got off those drugs… someone tried to kill me in a damn crack house and took everything away from me. No matter how hopeless it seems, there’s always a way out. That’s the message of the book.”

He continued: “I didn’t want to just tell my story, ‘this is what I went through.’ I wanted it to be like you said, (Joseph‘s previously published self-help book) “The PMA Effect” in the sense that these are the tools that you can use from me and other people who are in… There is a quote from Steve Othere’s a quote from all these people who are in long-term rehab, and this is what they do to stay clean and sober.

“But like any other book, it is useless if you don’t apply its content.” John added: “We don’t want armchair philosophers. When I read books back in the 80s or 81, when I started reading like Tao Te Ching And The Bhagavad Gita and all of those books, I’ve applied the knowledge to my life. That’s what I tell people. Whatever is in that book, if you don’t apply what’s in those pages to your life, it’s useless. It goes in one ear and out the other. And that’s been the difference for me, when I read something, when I read a book on screenwriting, when I read a book on whatever, every day I’m going to try to actively take steps to apply that knowledge.”
