Foster the People shares “Houdini” mashup with songs by Dua Lipa and Eminem

In the three-song mashup “Houdini,” Dua Lipa sings about her instability in a relationship and Eminem raps about his past opioid addiction to the beat of Foster the People.

Legend has it that if you stand in front of the mirror and say “Houdini” three times, Foster the People will appear out of nowhere and play “Houdini x Houdini x Houdini,” their mashup of their own song “Houdini” with Dua Lipa’s single “Houdini” and Eminem’s new single – also titled “Houdini.” The other option, if the idea of Foster the People appearing in your home worries you for some reason, is to listen to it on Instagram, where the band shared a breakdown showing their process of combining the three songs.

“There are two ‘Houdini’s’ on the radio right now, one by Eminem, one by Dua Lipa,” says frontman Mark Foster in the video. “I thought it would be fun to take our original ‘Houdini’ from our first record and, well, mix the three together.”

In this genre-bending mashup, Dua Lipa sings about her fickleness in a relationship and Eminem raps about his past opioid addiction to the percussive beat of Foster the People’s “Houdini.”

“Battle of the Houdinis,” Foster the People wrote in the video’s caption, adding a nod to Charli XCX’s “The Girl, So Confusing Version With Lorde” at the end—which, thankfully, is not titled “Houdini”: “We got it sorted out in the remix.”

Dua Lipa’s “Houdini” appeared on her latest album Radical optimismwhile Eminem released his song “Houdini” as the first single from his upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), will be released on July 12. Foster the People’s “Houdini” was released in 2011 when the band released their debut album, torches. It was the fifth single from the album, after “Pumped Up Kicks”, “Helena Beat”, “Call It What You Want” and “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)”.

Foster the People release their long-awaited fourth studio album, Paradisiacal state of mindon August 16th.
