Legendary rock singer announces cancer diagnosis, band cancels tour

Unfortunate news for rocker Ann Wilson and her longtime fans.

The 74-year-old singer of the legendary rock band Heart gave her fans an update on her health on Tuesday, revealing that she recently underwent cancer surgery. Due to the medical situation, the musician has decided to take the rest of the year off.

“Dear friends, I recently had surgery to remove something that turned out to be cancerous,” she wrote in a statement on Instagram. “The surgery was successful and I feel great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo preventative chemotherapy and I have decided to do that.”

Wilson underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and is thankfully slowly recovering. However, due to her treatment, doctors advised the singer to “stay off the stage for the remainder of the year to fully recover.”

This led Wilson to cancel Heart’s Royal Flush Tour, which was scheduled to begin in Cleveland on July 30 and run through December.

All previously purchased tickets for the now postponed shows remain valid. The new dates will be announced in the coming weeks, the press release states.

“To those who bought tickets, I really wish we could do these concerts…” she wrote. “My team is sorting out these details and we will share the plan with you as soon as possible.”

But the “Crazy on You” singer said her fans should view the medical situation as just a setback, as it won’t be permanent. She also thanked her longtime fans for their unwavering support.

“Please know that I fully intend to be back on stage in 2025,” she wrote.

“This is just a break. I have a lot more singing to do,” she added. “Love, Ann Wilson. With all due respect, this is the last public statement I wish to make on this matter.”

In addition, the band shared in a statement on Heart’s official Instagram page: “More information will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Wilson and his sister Nancy, 70, had previously canceled several shows in Europe in June and July due to health reasons. Wilson had to undergo a “time-sensitive but routine procedure for which the recovery time is at least six weeks.”

When the shows in Europe were cancelled, Wilson wrote on Instagram: “I’m fine! Please don’t worry. I apologize for any inconvenience. They are certainly inconvenient for me.”
