The oldest members of Generation Z are well into adulthood and have developed strong opinions about their favorite discount stores. Recently, GoBankingRates surveyed 1,023 Americans over 18 and found that Generation Z prefers Costco more than any other generation.

Generation X, baby boomers, and even most millennials said Walmart offered the best value in 2024. In comparison, one in five Gen Z members stopped shopping at Walmart because it was too expensive. In addition, 20% of new Costco repeat customers rated the big-box store as having one of the best rewards programs for saving this year, while another 18% said Costco had cut its prices the most to combat inflation.

When you see these deals, you won’t have to guess why Generation Z prefers Costco over other discount stores.
