Is Chris Pratt leaving Marvel for James Gunn’s DCU?

After visiting his friend James Gunn – the architect of the DCU – on the set of SUPERMAN: LEGACY, Chris Pratt shared his thoughts on a future entry into the franchise.

“Yes, of course,” Pratt said when asked if he would consider joining the DCU. “If it fits my schedule and makes sense, I’d be thrilled… I’ll just have to leave that up to the fans and people like James (Gunn).”

Pratt previously starred in the MCU with his role as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Gunn directed those films, his last project before taking on his role as head of the DCU.

“Obviously I love playing Star-Lord and hopefully there’s a chance it can happen again,” Pratt added. “I just feel so blessed to be able to do all of this, to be considered for all of this. If it’s right and the fans love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”

Gunn has expressed a similar sentiment in the past, stating that he would be thrilled to see former MCU actors take on roles in the DCU, but he would want to establish his new universe first before bringing in the crossover actors.

“That’s many years away, though. I think we need to figure out what we’re doing (at DC) first. I’d be lying if I said we haven’t talked about it,” Gunn said. “But all of the discussions have been very, very relaxed and fun.”

“We have hundreds of roles to fill,” he said. added in a tweet. “As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some actors I’ve worked with before, and some actors I’ve never worked with. Most importantly, the actor fits the role and is easy to work with.”

As Gunn builds the new DC Universe, he plans to differentiate his project from the MCU by having a concrete vision from the start, rather than cobbling together different franchises to create crossover events. Through this extensive planning, he hopes to revitalize the superhero genre, which has plummeted in popularity since the dramatic end of the Thanos saga in the MCU in 2019 with AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

The DCU, led by Gunn, will launch in July 2025 with the release of SUPERMAN: LEGACY.

If you’re a superhero fan, there’s a lot to look forward to in the DC Universe.

DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran recently shared their plans for the future of the DCU with Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav.

“I’ve gotten a glimpse into what James and Peter are doing, and it’s a really exciting indication of where the new DC is going under their leadership,” Zaslav said. “You’ll be hearing more from them in the coming months… James and Peter will be giving you a full spectrum of what they see over the next 10 years over the next few months.”

At a press conference in January, Gunn explained that DC’s vision is not the same as Marvel’s, as some might expect.
