Former Michigan State QB Katin Houser will always despise Michigan

Some things never change for a Spartan when he leaves East Lansing. For many, bitterness toward the Michigan Wolverines is one of them.

Former Michigan State quarterback Katin Houser, who transferred to East Carolina in the offseason, was not with the Spartans football program long but experienced the intensity of the historic in-state rivalry.

Houser’s Spartans were crushed by eventual national champions in East Lansing last season when the Wolverines marched in and defeated the home team by a score of 49-0.

Although Houser will be joining a new team in the fall, his dislike for the Maize and Blue will always remain.

During a recent appearance on Pirate Radio Live, Houser was asked, “Are you going to hate Michigan for the rest of your life?”

“I mean, yeah,” Houser said. “I’ve had bad experiences with Michigan fans, how bitter they are and stuff like that, and especially with Michigan State fans. So I’m not going to cheer for Michigan.”

In 13 games with the Spartans, Houser threw for 1,132 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, he played in 11 games and led Michigan State to an embarrassing 4-8 record.

Michigan has regained the upper hand in the rivalry in recent years, but the Spartans could have a chance to reclaim the Paul Bunyan Trophy under a new regime led by Jonathan Smith. Both Michigan State and Michigan had to make coaching changes this offseason, ushering in a new era in the storied rivalry.

Michigan State will face the Wolverines on October 26 at Michigan Stadium.
