Shortlist for the TikTok Book Awards 2024 – Locus Online

TikTok has announced the shortlist for the second annual Book Awards for the UK and Ireland. The shortlisted titles and authors in the genre are listed below. Several categories have changed since last year.

BookTok Book of the Year (UK and Ireland)

  • Gwen and Art are not in loveLex Croucher (Bloomsbury YA)

BookTok Book of the Year (International)

  • YellowfaceRF Kuang (William Morrow)
  • Fourth wing, Rebecca Yarros (Entangled: Red Tower)
  • Sword Catcher, Cassandra Clare (Del Rey)
  • Chain Gang All-StarsNana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah (Pantheon)

BookTok Breakthrough Author

  • Ben Alderson
  • Martin Knights
  • Claire Wright

Other categories include “BookTok Creator of the Year,” “Indie Bookstore of the Year,” and “TikTok Shop Book of the Year,” which “will be decided based on the TikTok shop’s sales data and the impact the book has had on TikTok.”

The list is selected by an industry panel including TikTok CEO Jack Edwards, Publishers Association CEO Dan Conway and Philip Jones, editor of The bookseller. Several writers also serve as judges, including Samantha Shannon. The final winners will be voted on by TikTok users and announced on July 25, 2024. TikTok says:

From #BookRecommendations to #Romantasy, #BookTok is a thriving community of literature lovers… With over 34 million posts on TikTok and counting, this community helps boost book sales, support independent bookstores, and boost the careers of emerging authors or previously underrepresented genres.

As part of the awards ceremony, TikTok has once again partnered with Bookshop.org. Participating indie bookstores will have the opportunity to promote the winners with “customized TikTok Book Award in-store destinations using graphics and official branding.”
