Where Michigan State Spartan Stadium ranks in the Big Ten

Where Michigan State Spartan Stadium ranks in the Big Ten

Spartan Stadium doesn’t get enough credit for the atmosphere it creates on game days.

That’s mainly because archrival Michigan has its biggest stadium just 60 miles away. But anyone who knows Spartan Stadium knows that it can be one of the toughest venues for any Big Ten opponent when the stakes are high.

CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli recently evaluated all 18 Big Ten stadiums, including the home stadiums of the conference’s newest members – Washington, USC, UCLA and Oregon.

Fornelli had ranked Spartan Stadium 11th.

Here’s what he had to say about the venue:

“We’ve now reached the part of the rankings where the quality of the program has a huge impact on the atmosphere in the stadium. When Michigan State is at its best, Spartan Stadium can be as loud as any other stadium in the league. But when the Spartans are struggling, it can get boring.”

That’s a pretty fair assessment. Spartan Stadium can be pretty loud when it’s at its best.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for the Spartan Faithful for some time. But with a new regime, that might change this fall.

Here were Fornelli’s complete Rankings:

18. Training area (northwest)
