Chris Young announced that his stepfather Michael Harris suffered a heart attack on the same day he was scheduled to perform a concert over the weekend.

On Sunday, following his performance in Greeley, Colorado, the country star wrote an emotional Instagram post thanking his fans for their unwavering support and expressing his relief that his stepfather was on the mend.

“I’m lost for words… the day my dad had a heart attack, you guys cheered me up,” he told his fans. “I love country music fans. I’m glad I played. I’m glad my dad is OK. Love to all of you.”

The Drinkin’ Me Lonely hitmaker, 39, also shared photos of himself on stage at the show, with his bandmates and the sweet moment when hundreds of attendees raised their cell phone flashlights in the air as he performed at the Greeley Stampede.

Many of his 1.5 million followers sent their best wishes and prayers to Young and his family in the comments section.

“Chris, I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I’m glad he’s OK. I’ll be praying for him,” one wrote.

Another fan commented: “I’m so glad to hear your dad is okay. I know it’s a scary situation.”

“Prayers for a speedy recovery ❤️,” said a third.

Others praised him for having the strength to get through his concert.

Young’s stepfather struggled with numerous health problems over the years, including his first heart attack in the mid-2000s.

In 2009, Harris was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Two years later, Young told Taste of Country that his stepfather had “a third of his lung removed” and was undergoing chemotherapy as part of his cancer treatment.

“He’s actually doing really well. He’s doing great. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen him depressed through all of this… Every day he gets up, it’s a good day, and that’s something I’m really going to pass on to everybody,” Young said.

Young, who refers to Harris as his “dad” in interviews and on social media, had previously shared an emotional video in which he surprised Harris with a brand new car for Christmas.

“My dad has been driving the same truck for over a decade. I decided he needed a new one this year. Love you dad!” he captioned the photo revealing the surprise.

He also shared pictures of them on Father’s Day and screenshots of their text message exchange on social media.

In a Facebook post, Young posted a photo of Harris with the caption: “This is only technically my stepfather.”
