Former AEW commentator Kevin Kelly comments on Chris Jericho’s learning tree gimmick

Chris Jericho’s ability to reinvent himself over the years and continue to compete even after he’s over 50 has been praised many times, but his current gimmick, “The Learning Tree,” seems to be a direct response to all the criticism he’s faced online.

According to Kevin Kelley on Eric Bischoff’s podcast “Wise Choices,” “The Learning Tree” gimmick is just the beginning. “You can never underestimate Chris Jericho’s ability to learn new things. It’s like he always wants to challenge himself and try new things. That’s where he sees himself at this point in his career, so we’re looking at it from that perspective,” he said. “And I think that’s going to help the audience embrace it. It’s a little bit of ‘Inside Baseball,’ and I think that might be the point that some people miss.”

Jericho commented on his many gimmicks in a recent interview and interestingly said that “The Learning Tree” is his favorite persona. However, he pointed out that this is always the case no matter what gimmick he has, as he always prefers what he is doing at the time, otherwise he would be doing something else. The veteran also stressed that he actually puts the needs of young talent above his own, although he also feels a responsibility to make sure that the legends who paved the way for him also get what they are due.
