First Annual Gold Coast Book Fair in Oyster Bay

From June 18-30, Theodore’s Books offered three days of programs, events and workshops for the first annual Gold Coast Book Fair. The event aimed to bring Long Island’s book community together and featured activities for all ages.

The weekend included keynote speakers, panel discussions, book signings, and a street party. The kickoff event featured guest speakers, historical nonfiction author Erik Larson. The bestselling author spoke about his latest book, The Demon of Unreston June 28th.

On June 29, writers spoke at Long Island University in Brookeville. Speakers included novelists, historians, romance, fantasy, crime writers, and poet laureates. The festival showcased a variety of genres for all members of the community.

An outdoor market opened in downtown Oyster Bay on Sunday, June 30. Downtown Main Street was closed to pedestrians and vendors, authors and food trucks were set up for visitors to enjoy.

Food and drink vendors such as the First Class Trolley Food Truck and Knot Of This World Fresh Baked Pretzels lined the street, and restaurants on Main Street also remained open to visitors.

Author events were held at restaurants and event spaces such as Hive Market and Gallery, Oyster Bay Historical Society, Life Enrichment Center, and others.

Vendors on the street included Theodore’s Books, Southdown Coffee and Oyster Bay Brewing Company. Local shops sold book-related products and independent authors had booths showcasing their novels.

Bouncy castles, games and activities were set up for the children, including cornhole, chess and face painting.

The jazz band The Sparrows played live music for guests throughout the afternoon at the Derby Hall Bandstand.
