Ruth Langsford ‘sends love’ in touching message after heartbreaking loss

Former This Morning actress Ruth Langsford has penned a touching tribute following the devastating loss of Gemma Atkinson’s beloved dog Norman. Gemma, 39, shared the heartbreaking news with her followers on her Instagram page on Monday, adding a moving montage of memories of her beloved pet.

In the emotional post, Gemma told her fans that she was “heartbroken” after having to make “the hardest decision” regarding Norman’s welfare. The video tribute featured numerous moments with Norman, his furry pal Ollie and Gemma’s five-year-old daughter Mia.

Shortly after Gemma posted her sad message, many of her two million followers responded with condolences, including TV personality and dog lover Ruth, who commented: “Oh Gemma, I am so, so sorry. I can only imagine your pain. What a wonderful life you gave him… keep your memories close. Sending you love.”

BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty also expressed her condolences, saying: “I am so sorry for your loss and heartache xx.”

Janette Manrara, presenter of Strictly Come Dancing’s It Takes Two, also sent her condolences, writing: “I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you all the love in the world,” reports the Express.

Gorka Marquez, Gemma’s fiancé and professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, expressed his sadness with a series of heartfelt emojis.

Ruth herself understands the deep bond between a dog and its owner, having adopted her rescue collie mix, Maggie, along with her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes, over a decade ago.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the couple excitedly talked about how much joy she had brought into their lives.

“She’s just adorable,” Ruth exclaimed. “We love her so much. You come home and you’ve had a hard day, a long day, whatever, and I see her and she sees me or Eamonn, and you see her tail wagging and then she runs off and I know she’s getting a toy out of her basket to bring you.”

“It’s simply the most beautiful thing. And you forget everything that worried you, annoyed you, or upset you.”

Eamonn also shared Ruth’s feelings during the conversation, but interestingly noted: “If my wife loved me as much as my dog loves me, I would be a very happy man.”

The couple, who split in May after 14 years of marriage, have been struggling with the separation ever since. Following the split, Ruth appears to have taken on the primary care of Maggie.

A source told The Sun that Eamonn’s recent health issues could affect the final decision on who will keep the dog permanently.

“Maggie is like a daughter to them. They love and adore her. But she is getting on in years and they know she needs stability,” the insider commented.

“The question is who can give her that. Eamonn adores her and Maggie has been a great support to him during his health problems.”

“The thought of giving her up breaks his heart. But if Ruth gets out more and takes her for walks, she may well get Maggie when they split up.”
