Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor hopes to be part of something “special”

Like Aaron Rodgers last offseason, the move to the Jets was a breath of fresh air for another experienced quarterback, backup Tyrod Taylor.

“No disrespect to the Giants, but when I came here and was around the guys in Phase One, it freshened up the energy in the locker room,” Taylor said. “On the field, it’s just different. I’ve been on a couple different teams and had a chance to try this out on a couple different teams. I think we’re in a good position. There’s just room for growth and I think everyone obviously wants to be a part of something special, but it’s about putting in the work. That’s what we’re focused on.”

The player, who was selected in the sixth round by Virginia Tech in 2011 and is now entering his 14th NFL year with 92 games (including 58 starts) under his belt, is optimistic that the Green-Whites will reach the playoffs.

“A lot of talent at every position,” he said at minicamp. “Obviously, I got a chance to play against this group of guys last year and even coached against them in training camp two years ago. A very talented squad and the guys are just fun to be around. It’s a great locker room and the coaching staff is great as well. We have high expectations, but it’s really about working day by day, not looking too far ahead, enjoying the process, staying true to the process and striving to get better every day.”

Taylor, who played the last two seasons with the Giants, enters an unusual quarterback league in which the starters and backups are both experienced NFL players, while most teams have a mix of youth and experience. The Patriots, for example, have Jacoby Brissett, who is entering his ninth year, and No. 3 pick Drake Maye.
